Timeflip 27

When they went to the doctor yesterday, Timeflip was quite concerned about the sparking being over due (having heard some horror stories). Even though it was only a couple solar cycles past the expected date, she was still concerned.  Even Bezel had told her it was not like the little one was cyber-weeks past due!
To ease her concerns and Barricade’s frustration at not being able to reassure her, Dr. Stalkah had suggested an old remedy with scientific fact to back it up: He instructed the couple to make love.  He reminded them that passion can both relax and yet also trigger certain pulsing sensations that could trip the spark into beginning the labor process. Besides, it’s a perfectly natural way to take their mind off stressful things. After all, once the little one arrives, there won’t be so much intimate time any more and mind as well take advantage of it while they still can.

Barricade awakes this morning with a quite sedate mate snuggled onto him.  He strokes her completely relaxed face in the dawning day. The doctor’s order sure pushed all their concerns aside ending with them both falling soundly to sleep.
But with the dawning light, he knows he still needs to talk to Timeflip about a file he has hidden the desk. He hasn’t told Coyote because he feels it only right to tell his mate first. How can he tell her this news after all she has now?

His alarm clock goes off earlier than normal today reminding him that he has to meet with the District Attorney before walking into the court room to testify against a high ranking thug in a crime syndicate.  It’s actually because of this case that he has that file in is desk now.
The repeating snooze alarm finally gets Barricade moving.  First he switches the thing off, second he eases his mate off his body where she burrows into the blankets like a Driller might the ground. “Mor’n Sweetie,” she mutters then a soft snore.
He can’t help but chuckle to that. She really tried to greet him with the new day, but she’s just too tired. For her effort, he kisses what he can find of her helm before he slides off the berth to hit the shower.

~~
The meeting with the DA is standard and just as they discussed earlier. Barricade doesn’t mind.  Nobody wants this guy getting off on a technicality or any misunderstanding of the way facts are presented. The police partners had been very careful to get a proper warrant before they entered the building and only touched exactly what they were supposed to. No roughhousing, no threats, just carefully booking of the evidence and arresting the occupant.
On the stand, Officer Barricade does exactly as rehearsed with the Prosecutor. The Defense Attorney though, he can not be fully prepared for, but does manage to hold his own.  Even some of the snide jabs to ‘reckless cops’ does not make him break, for he knows good and well he and Coyote did everything right.  Prowl would have their badges if they didn’t!
Eventually the Defense is done with Barricade and he takes his seat back beside Coyote.  In here there is zero tolerance for whispers or talking during proceedings thus Coyote can’t tell Barricade about the text he received from Timeflip.
By the time recess is called, Coyote leans into Barricade’s audio, “Don’t freak, but Timeflip is at the hospital. Her bosses insisted.”
The ruby optics go wide but the voice is mute.
“Let’s go,” the taller mech orders with a tight hold to the navy elbow.

On the drive over, Coyote notices Barricade is more quiet than he is expecting for a first time father.  “Are you alright over there?”
“Um-yeah,” he manages to surface from his thoughts about a conversation he will have to have with Timeflip all too soon and with a newborn present.
“What’s going on up inside that big helm of yours?”
Barricade turns to his friend and partner. It won’t be easy to tell him this either. After all, it’s been an interesting journey to be accepted by this mech. He is truly going to miss him as well. He takes a deep breath preparing to break the news when the hospital comes into view.  “I’ll tell you later.”
Coyote smiles giving Barricade a light punch to the shoulder, “Come on….Daddy.”
Barricade rounds the car to bop Coyote back, “I like the sound of it, so get used to it.”  They both chuckle and make their way up to the maternity ward.

At the nurse’s station, he tries to use his professional voice to keep calm, but it still squeaks out, “My mate *cough* Timeflip.  I heard she is here.”
The nurse smiles to him trying to regain his dignity.  Coyote says nothing though for silently he is praying that all will go well for the young family.
“Follow me,” she rounds the desk leading them both to a room where they can hear a femme crying out.  Barricade goes pale to the strange sound.  It’s nothing like he’s EVER heard from his dear Timeflip.  Coyote grabs his elbow just in case he should totter as they continue to follow the nurse to a curtained berth.
Coyote turns to Barricade, “Are you going to be alright?”
When the cry goes out again and this time he can tell it’s not coming from the curtain before him but from the other one, he gives a sheepish smile.  “Yeah, I think so.”
The terracotta mech pats his shoulder, “I’ll be in the waiting room if you need me.”
       That’s were Barricade blinks, “Really?”
“We are partners and friends, Barricade.  Besides, I am going to be the godfather, right?” He just has to throw the tease at the end.
But Barricade’s voice is quite serious, “You weren’t supposed to know yet.”
That makes the turquoise optics blink this time.
“Barricade?   Is that you-ugh.” Timeflip calls from behind the curtain which the nurse pulls back to answer the question.  “Hey Darling!  Coyote!”
Coyote smiles, “Hi-ya Timeflip.  How’s it going?”
She wrinkles up her face in the next contraction as not to cry out like the other femme.  Unfortunately, she looks just so darned adorable like a sparkling who sucked on a sour candy.  Coyote can’t help but chuckle lightly. “Oh?  That good?”
She inches her finger to him and they both come closer.  There she whispers while thumbing to the berth next to her, “Could be worse… or going to be?” That last part is finished with a tinge of worry.
Coyote gives her hand a warm squeeze though.  “Hey, you’ll be fine.”  With a smirk of his own he thumbs to his partner, “You put up with him, right?  Can’t be that much worse?”
“HEY!  I’m right here ya know!”  Barricade shoots back a mock glower even though he too is grateful for Coyote trying to lighten them up in his own sweet-gruff way.
Timeflip and Bezel giggle to the bantering two.
Coyote turns his sparkling optics to Timeflip’s mother.  “Always a pleasure to see you again, Bezel.”
She stands up to give him a light embrace.  “You too, Coyote.  Let’s give these two some privacy.  Let me buy you a goodie.”
“He doesn’t deserve one!”  Barricade shoots a scrunched up face at his partner then switches to a broad smile in gratitude to him looking after his mother-in-law also.
Bezel laughs warmly then takes Coyote’s arm as they leave.  Barricade then gives all his attention to his mate.  She does look a bit uncomfortable but not in agony yet.  When a contraction hits again, he immediately gives his hand for her to squeeze.  “You know I wish I could take the pain for you.”
She smiles, “And you know I wish that you could feel this birth.”
He smiles, “You know, I could have the next one.  We could even both have one at the same time if we did it just right!”
Timeflip snickers patting the hand holding hers, “Darling, lets get through this one first before we try increasing the family.”
His cheeks blush, “Yeah you got a point there.  After all you are the sciency one, so you tell me how the experiment goes.”
Now she has to laugh out loud.  “I love you Barricade, you big goof.  Come here.”
He leans in and she leans up to press a sweet kiss to his lips.  This is when the next contraction comes making her grunt under his lips.  He breaks the kiss to press his forehelm to hers.  “Breath, Babe.   Remember to breathe.”
“It’s uh h-hard to remember sometimes when it takes you so off guard.”
“I’m here.  I’m not going anywhere,” he hums to give a soothing comfort.
Timeflip leans forward more and he knows she would like his big warm paws to massage over her back directly behind her spark.   “Ummmm, gunna melt.”
      He chuckles but continues.

It’s not too many breams later and the final few contractions come.  Barricade is holding the empty protoform in his hands as Timeflip grips down on the handrails.  The drugs may have cut majority of the pain, but there is still some.  She would not have it any other way!  Both of them watch as Dr. Stalkah cups the spark as it’s last umbilical tendril breaks from it’s mother’s spark and is then gently eased into the waiting protoform.
The spark chamber doors close on the infant and then it takes a gasp.  The warming body shivers and Dr. Stalkah swiftly folds the blanket over the tiny form.  A soft squeak comes from the fresh vocorder when it yawns and blinks it’s optics open.  The chin warbles like someone about to cry in confused to his new surroundings.
“Hold him close Barricade while I make sure everything is fine with Timeflip.”
The large mech sniffs and nods, pulling the infant snuggly against his chest and swelling spark. It didn’t miss him that he was just told he has a son, yet all that matters is this tiny life needs him right now.  Silently he vows to protect him with every beat of his life.
Timeflip doesn’t watch the doctor too enraptured to see her mate and son.  She knows she will get to hold him soon enough, but for now, just to see them together is more than enough for her.  “I love you so much, Barricade.”
He pulls his optics from their treasure only for a moment to look at her.  “Timeflip, you are amazing and we are the luckiest two mechs in the world.”
No one cares that tears and buggers are sliding down their faces. Dr. Stalkah smiles to them both, “I never get used to seeing a new life begin.  He’s in good hands.”
Barricade sinks down to the chair beside him feeling his knees about to go.  Last thing he needs at this second is to undo the doctor’s words by dropping the newborn!
Dr. Stalkah says nothing to that just finishing up his work and helping her close her spark chamber.  “No spark merging for about four to six cyber weeks.  It’s a bit tender in there and could hurt a lot if you do.  Besides, with your first miscarriage, I don’t want to take the chance of another weak bond being made with a new sparkling.”  He tucks the blanket up to her chest.  “I think you’ll be a little busy though.”
Timeflip gives his hand a really tight squeeze before he can move towards their son.  “Th-thank you.  For ev-everything.”
“My pleasure.  Now, let me get a look at that little mech. I’ve been waiting to meet him for a long time.”
Barricade holds the sparkling out and the doctor slips his slender arms under the little yawning one.  “Hello there, little tike.”
Carefully he lays the infant in the cradle his mother’s blanketed thighs make.  When he can, he always does this where the parents can see.  This way if they have any questions or concerns everyone is present.
Barricade doesn’t trust himself to stand so scoots the chair closer where he can hold Timeflip with one hand and see everything.
“Do you have a name for this little mech?”  Dr. Stalkah brings his tablet forward.
“Rizo.  We were going to name him Gizmo, but Rizo seems a bit more productive and a bit less silly.”
Dr. Stalkah chuckles putting the name onto the data pad, “Rizo it is then.  Now then, let’s see those optics of yours.”
A slightly lighter red than Barricade’s peer up to the doctor and everyone daws.

On and on the ApGar test is done on Rizo.  In the end, he is declared healthy with no complications.  Routine it may seem, but no birth can be considered completely routine.  After all, this isn’t an assembly line machine that was just brought on line.  This is a brand new individual that has come to life.  His own dreams, goals, and future are to be made from now on.
Dr. Stalkah is about to push the tiny cot away with Rizo inside when Timeflip grips the edge.  “Please, can he stay with me?”
“Only if someone is awake at all times.  If you need to sleep and there isn‘t anyone to help you, please, let us take him to the nursery.”
Barricade rises up.  “Her mother and I will stand guard for her.  When can I take my family home, if everything is well?”
“In the morning, if all is well.  Standard is a full solar cycle of observation just to be safe.”  The doctor informs them both.  “Shall I send your mother in?”
Timeflip nods, “I would appreciate that.”

Just as Barricade hoped, Timeflip, Rizo, and Bezel come home the next afternoon.  Thankfully Bell did not call a whole lot of people over or anything.  No, just a quiet homecoming for them.
Timeflip is a bit tired and a little sore in the chest, but her joy if being home and with her family overshadows all that.  She makes it to the couch and sinks down beside her sister.  Bezel carefully lifts the infant out of his carrier and slips him into Bell’s arms.
Bell daws and her little nephew.  “Oh Barricade, he’s so darn cute.”
“Yeah, I know.  Takes after his mother.”  No arrogant reply to it being HIS son just the praise to his mate.
Bell though looks up to him, “No Barricade, both of you.  He’s perfect just like you two are together.”
Barricade sinks to the floor where he can slip a finger into his little mech’s tiny fist.  “Thank, Bell.”
Bell chokes on her tears though, “No, thank you Barricade for never giving up so we could be here now with you.” She openly sobs dripping a few tears onto the blanket, “I wish your parents where here to see their grandson.  Papa too.”
Barricade cups her cheek so that she can see him through her blurry optics. “I believe they are always with us and continue to live on.  So, in a way, they are here with us now. And I think Patek is very proud to see us all right now.  MY parents are probably telling me ‘it’s about time!’ “
How can anyone stay upset too long with a statement like that!  Bell laughs hard with a fresh set of tears dripping down. “Thanks for making me look like an idiot on the first introduction to my nephew.”
Barricade smirks again, “Ah!  Don’t worry, he’ll get used to it.”
“BARRICADE!”  Timeflip and Bezel gape his name shaking their heads.  He just roars with laughter though.
Everyone has to admit that seeing fun-Barricade back again is a welcome sight.  He’s been extremely tense and distracted these last few cyber-weeks.
He scoops his son out of Bell’s arms to nuzzle their noses together.  “Welcome home little one.”  Rizo reaches up putting his tiny palm against Barricade’s lips.  Without hesitation, he presses a kiss to the tiny palm.

The rest of the afternoon and early evening passes rather calmly with getting Rizo’s settled in.  Timeflip decides to go to bed soon after both the infant and the adults have their dinner. Rizo is more than ready to be tucked in by both his doting parents.  They made a promise to say prayers with their sparkling’s every night and they are going to do their best to hold to that starting with tonight.
With a last kiss to Rizo’s sleepy helm, Barricade tucks Timeflip in next.  She knows he’s not ready to bed down so she gives him a yawn and then a shooshing motion to leave the room.  He presses one last kiss to her helm then goes over to the desk to pick up a couple data pad files.
Bell heads off to her room to do homework for her classes.  Bezel decides to head off to her room to read a book with a final warning to Barricade and Timeflip that she is just down the hall if they need her.
That leaves Barricade alone and wide awake. He’s not sure if he’s ready to look at that file so flips on the tv.
After the show is over and he notices he hasn’t a clue what had happened his mind on too many other things. As the next show starts, he opens the file.  He has been accepted to the federal law enforcement division.  Before the war, this is the same division that killed Timeflip’s father.  This is the division that killed his own mother and had his father dragged in for interrogation.
Yes the war is over.  Yes there are new bots in charge, some of them even former Decepticons.  His own reputation during the war has made it very hard for him to get accepted.  Before Timeflip arrived back on Cybertron, one recruiter told him he would NEVER be accepted into any law enforcement division.  Not even as a meter maid.
He gives a light huff to that memory as he stares at the acceptance letter to the investigative team.  Along with the acceptance letter, is all the subsequent forms.  In big bold lettering is the due date.  If he does not return the forms and report in Crystal City by this date, he will be back to square one.  He may never get this chance again.
Once more, Barricade sighs heavily rubbing the scar on his chin.  He can’t make this decision without talking to his mate.  He hates to take her away from her friends and a job with a mentor she greatly respects.  Shockwave has been a teacher, a second father, a guardian to her and-
“Hey, what to have there?  Work stuff?”  Bezel asks.
Barricade gasps having been caught off guard.  “No, not work stuff.”
Bezel teases plucking the pad out of his hand, “Well if it’s not work than what has you to distracted that even I can sneak up on a cop?”  Before he can snag it back, she sees the letter head.   “Oh my.”
The older red femme sinks down beside her son-in-law.  Barricade takes the pad back from her. He’s a bit worried how she will feel about him working for a division that killed her mate and had execution orders out for the rest of her family.  Yes it’s different now that the war is over, but not everyone sees it that way.  He doesn’t look up to her.
      “Does Timeflip know?”
He doesn’t move and this answers some of the lingering questions she’s had about his tension over the past week.  She thought it was due to the court case and Rizo, now she sees there was a third factor.
“Does Coyote know?”  This time he shakes his head softly.  “Who does know?”
“The Chief, Prowl, because he got the notice too.  He needs my answer so he can promote someone to my place if I do leave.”
“Do you want to go?  Well obliviously you do if you applied.”
Barricade turns to her, “Can I talk to you about this?  If it’s too painful due to what they did to you-”
Bezel grips his hand, “Barricade, tell me why you wanted to work for them and then I will give you my answer.”
He squeezes back.  “I don’t want it to ever happen again.”
    “Talk to me.”
Barricade sighs fully letting his body sink back into the cushions.  It has been so hard for him to keep all of this to himself.  He gives a silent thanks to Primus for Bezel then begins to talk.
The sparkling arrives.  Will Barricade make it in time?  Are you placing your bets to how he will react to the new life in his life?  Sweet spark-to-spark moment for Barricade with his mother-in-law Bezel.  A hint as to what I have planned for the young family in the future.  Bezel finds out that Barricade's current stressing is not just about the trial he is to testify in or the sparkling.

It’s been a few cyber-weeks since the sparkling shower.  Barricade and Timeflip have moved into Coyote’s house with her sister and mother.  With one set of bedrooms on the east and another set on the west side of the house it leaves them with some privacy with the common rooms in between for community family time.
Barricade is finding coming home more pleasant than he expected. Sometimes Bell is there for a good teasing, sometimes out with recently made new friends. Bezel is almost always there with a meal either hot or ready for reheat. Although he is a Detective, his hours are not always regular. Sometimes an informant is just not to be found for interrogation between a nine-to-five shift.
As for Timeflip, normally a Cybertronian would be on maternity leave by now, but with Dr. Stalkah’s consent (because her job is not that stressful and low i
